#153: Beyond Fashion

Good Monday morning!  Can you believe that June is almost over?  Today is our last Bible study this month.  The time has flown by, but I have really enjoyed my time with you.  Hope you enjoy today's study!  "I don't have a THING to wear!" Have those words ever come from your lips? Join me as we study Matthew 6:27-28.

Sermon: "How to Bring Out the Best in Your Kids"

I've really enjoyed working on this sermon.  You'll find several unique stories about my own experiences as both a dad and as a child.  How do you bring out the best in your kids? Today we talk about the importance of accepting their uniqueness and affirming their value. Join me for part 2 of how to be a model parent.  I have included some resources that may be helpful to you as you watch or listen to this sermon:

#152: Anxiety Attack

After a day of much needed rest yesterday, today I am biking 56 miles from Defiance to Fostoria.  I should be back in town by Saturday afternoon.  However, I have set aside this time to have a Bible study with you today.  I'm glad you're here!  If I give myself up completely to treasure the right treasure, who's going to treasure me? Join me as we study Matthew 6:25-26.

#151: Double Minded

Today, if all has gone well, I should be bicycling 56 miles from Bowling Green to Defiance.  Will this keep us from having a Bible study?  No way!  First things first!  It's easy to be "double-eyed"... unfocused... How do we keep our eyes focused on being rich towards God? Join me as we study Matthew 6:24.

Ephesians on CD - Want to Share Your Voice?

Bright_idea I was having breakfast a couple weeks ago with Shaun Jourdan, and we were talking about the summer sermon series we have coming up later in July after the Parenting series is finished.  Shaun came up with a brilliant idea!  He suggested that we not only make an "Ephesians CD," but that we use various voices from Church Requel folks to make it!  Great idea Shaun!

Earlier this year we enjoyed a 1 John sermon series and so I personally made a 1 John CD to share with our church.  The idea was to read 1 John as often as possible in multiple ways... in different versions... to really own the text.  We hope to do the same thing this summer for Ephesians.

Would you like to add your voice to the project?  I'd be happy to schedule a private time with you to record.  We can record as many takes as necessary to get it right.  You won't be embarrased... I promise!  Think what a treasure this will be for our church!

If you are interested, just email me: Mark.Pierce AT ChurchRequel.org.  I hope we can get a good group to do this.  Our first Ephesians sermon is scheduled for July 12th, so we'll need to get this project started as soon as next week.  Think about it!  Talk to you soon, Mark

#150: The Evil Eye

Good Monday morning everyone!  Yes, it's true that I'm on the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure this week.  But you didn't think that would stop our daily Bible studies did you?  No way!  I worked ahead so we could continue in one of my favorite parts of Scripture.  Last Friday we learned the first truth about treasure and riches.  Today we learn the second, and along the way learn about the evil eye.  Do you have an "evil eye?" Don't know what an evil eye is? Join me as we study Matthew 6:22-23.

Why Requel?

  • Mark Pierce is the pastor of Church Requel, a church started in December 2008 in Mansfield, Ohio. This weblog is about Mark and his efforts to plant the church. He is also husband of 29 years to a most fantastic woman, dad to four great kids, grandfather of another four (soon to be five!), and the son of his biggest fan.
  • In the movie business a "sequel" is a film that logically continues the story to the next episode. A "prequel" is a film that tells the story before the story. Now a new word has entered our lexicon: the "requel," another way of looking at the same story. Church Requel, then, is another way of looking at church, a new take on how church is done. This blog is my chance to talk and learn about leading and serving in a “Requel” environment.
