Sunday morning will be S-U-P-E-R! I can say that with confidence. All of your super heroes will be there - Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Wonder Woman and many more! Our children have been working on this Christmas production for several months now and are excited to bring this to life on the Church Requel platform.
Parents - VERY IMPORTANT - Dress Rehearsal will be Saturday morning from 10am until noon. The children should bring or wear their costumes. Nursery children (playing the sheep) should wear black pants and a black shirt. Stage hands should wear black as well. Tech team - show up tomorrow at 10am too so you have a chance to practice with the children.
We are most appreciative of Tamara Engstrom (and her faithful helper, Chris) for leading the way. She has done it all. She picked out the play, practiced with our children every Sunday morning since October, and this week has been at church every day working on the set. Wow! What a blessing she is to our church!
Free DVDs - Parents and Grandparents who want a free DVD of the Children's Christmas production should come back to Church Requel on Sunday Christmas Eve for our 5pm service. We will have your DVD available then. It's not like we expect you NOT to take videos or pictures on your own this Sunday, but maybe you can relax a little bit and enjoy the show more if you know we will be doing it for you. Many thanks to Jonathan Pierce and DRM Productions who are printing our DVDs at cost only.
Potluck Meal - Sunday after the children's Super Christmas program we will all enjoy a potluck meal together. We have purchased a large ham and will have all the paper plates and eating utensils provided for you. You all bring your crockpots, casseroles, side dishes and desserts to share. We never have a lack of food to eat at these potlucks, so come hungry!
Leadership Meeting - Church leaders, be reminded that we have a brief meeting after the potluck. We will meet in the conference room next to the Church Requel office.
New Website - Same Address. This past week we launched a new website for our church. It still is located at www.ChurchRequel.org. I love the new front page that features all of you! That's right... we start our website off with a group picture. We say all the time that the church is the people, not the building!
The new website has a cleaner, fresher look. It should be faster and more reliable and work much better on mobile devices. It also will give us much greater flexibility to add signup forms for short-term purposes.
The sermons page is also much better with our most recent talk featured at the top of the page. Here you will also be able to search all of our sermons by titles, series, speaker or dates. Try it out by clicking here.
Jen Repp Celebration Of Life. We are so saddened by Jen's passing one week ago today. She was such an encouragement and spark of hope for so many of us. She and Dave were actually married in our church building long before it ever became Church Requel. Jen was a fighter and struggled for 9 long months to get those new lungs to work. Our hearts go out to Dave and the entire Repp family - most of whom worshipped with us last Sunday morning.
Jen's Celebration of Life service will be held at Church Requel one week from Saturday on December 23rd. Visitation will be from 9am to 11am. The Celebration of Life service will begin at 11am. A meal - provided by the church and family friends - will be provided downstairs afterward.
Help With Funeral Meal. We are expecting many guests for Jen's Celebration of Life. She touched many people! Would you be willing to help us out? We need you to bring a casserole, side dish, and/or dessert to share with family and friends. It would also be very helpful if we knew that you were committed to bringing food and knew what you were bringing. Please take a moment now to sign up online here (https://www.churchrequel.org/repp) so we can make plans to have enough food available.
Christmas Eve Worship Service. Our Christmas Eve service - Sunday, December 24th - will be held at 5pm. It will include communion, candle lighting, singing of Christmas songs, a very special greeting time (I hear hot chocolate will be involved!) as well as a special Christmas message from me. You will not want to miss it! You will want to bring family and friends.
A few last words!. This has been a very busy newsletter in the midst of a busy week. Yet I would be negligent if I didn't take just a moment to acknowledge the disappointment that many of us must be feeling with Jen's passing. We prayed with umph - hoping for her healing. And now that she's gone there's definitely a hole in our hearts as we worship together this Christmas season.
I remind you (and me) that God did not ignore our prayers. He answered them in a most benevolent manner. Jennifer is now whole and hearty and worshiping and singing with all her might and wind! She breathes effortlessly now. She dances. She is happy. It is only we who are in this agony of missing her.
My prayer for you (and me) is that God would fill our hearts with joy and assurance in the midst of our grieving. It is still right to grieve. God promises that He will turn our tears of grief to tears of joy. He does not ask us not to cry.
I love you all with the full heart of love and compassion that only Christ can provide. Always your loving pastor, Mark
