Anyone else excited for tomorrow morning besides me? For one thing I'm always excited to be able to get together with my Church Requel family. Secondly, I'm excited to see what our sanctuary will look like once we have everything moved!
Tomorrow many of you have signed up to help us out for 2 hours from 10am to noon. Many hands make the work go quickly!
Thanks to Cindy, Brandi, Eddie, Karen, Adam, Brett, Dan, Marci, Aaron, Chris, Tamara, Fred, Susie, Roger, Judie, Mark and Mary Kay. Paul is also coming with 3 of his friends to help us out too! If you haven't signed up but you have some time in the morning to help out, just show up! The more the merrier!
What will we be doing? Paul has given us a good list of things to accomplish.
Right side Pew / Piano Changes: #1) Move the back left pew downstairs. #2) Move the altar that has been stored on the right side back to the left side back (where the pew had been.) #3) Put the piano on it's side in the aisle. Thanks to Chris, who is bringing a tool to helps us move the piano! #4) Remove the rug that had been under the piano. #5) Move the back two pews from the back right to the front right (where the piano had been). #6) Put the rug for the piano down in the back right where the pews had been. #7) Move the piano to the back and place on top of the rug. (Have we mentioned how thankful we all are for Chris?) #8) Bring up a pew from the basement and place where the piano had been - a total of 3 pews will replace piano.
Front Pew Modesty Rail Changes: #1) Remove modesty rail in front and place on north side by organ. #2) Take first center pew downstairs to place back-to-back with commercial refrigerator. #3) Remove small modesty rail at choir loft and place against back of organ console.
Storm Window: Remove all screens and replace with storm windows.
Christmas Decorations: Bring up the outdoor Nativity Scene and set up outside in front of the building by the front steps. Bring up some of the other Christmas decorations to the sanctuary. (We will not be setting up all the nativities as we have in the past.)
Help Tamara with Sets For Kiddos. Tamara will use some of you to set up the scenes for our Children's program on December 17th.
Again - thanks to everyone who volunteers and helps us out with the work. The sanctuary should flow better for our use as well as getting us prepped for the new front platform and carpeting that will be installed next year.
Sunday Morning - Advent Week 2. Our theme Sunday morning will be God's love! Putting together a sermon on the topic of God's love is a little like trying to take a drink from a fire hydrant - overwhelming and overpowering! However, rather than being overcome with so much I tried to take the USDA Prime approach - giving you the very best of the best!
I'm thrilled that Loni and Mark will be lighting the 2nd Advent candle for us this week. Mark has become not only a special friend to Loni, but to many of us too! It will be great to see the two of them up front this week. We continue to pray every week for Loni's complete recovery.
Brandi and her praise team will also be showing up in a BIG WAY! We will be led by the largest praise team yet from Church Requel! In fact we had to borrow an extra mic from DRM so that we would be able to include everyone. (Thanks Jonathan and partners!)
The songs we will be singing Sunday include “Angels We Have Heard On High,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “We All Bow Down,” and “Love The Lord.” Brandi will also be singing a special song for us: "Love Is Christmas." (Wow, how did she know the theme? Ha!)
Neighborhood Meal - December 9th. Our next opportunity to serve our neighbors a healthy, warm, free meal will be Saturday, December 9th. If you would like to serve, show up at 4pm. We begin serving at 5pm. We are usually finished serving and cleaned up by 6:30 pm. This is a great opportunity to be Jesus' hands and feet!
Children's Christmas Program - December 17th. Our children are all practicing for a "SUPER" Christmas program. You won't want to miss it. I know all you regulars will be at Church Requel that morning. Here's a pro tip: invite family members right now. You know that Grandma and Grandpa will want to come. Not to mention all the aunts, uncles and in-laws. So get on the phone and call, text, FaceTime, Snapchat, or however you communicate these days... let your whole family know!
Brandi and Leia are creating a printed invitation that we hope to have available for you in one week. This will help everyone get the word out.
Christmas Potluck Meal - December 17th. This day is going to be so super special! Not only will we enjoy a super children's program, but we will also enjoy a super potluck meal together afterward! Start figuring out your casseroles now. Families bring two dishes. Single folks bring one.
Christmas Eve - 5pm! The votes are in! More of you asked that we enjoy our Christmas Eve on the evening of Christmas Eve than during the morning. This means there will be no Sunday morning service on December 24th. We will have our worship at 5pm instead. We hope everyone will make the effort to come. We're already working to make this a very special worship event for our church family.
Keep praying! We continue to pray for Jack, Jen, Aimee, Loni, and Mari. We do not know why they are going through such difficult times with their health, but we pray that God will heal each of them and grant them comfort during their tribulations.
Love you all more than you know! Pastor Mark
