Hope the sunshine inside you is as bright as the sunshine outside this morning! It's great to see blue skies again.
First up, be reminded that we serve our neighborhood a warm, healthy, free meal tomorrow evening. Many thanks to Sheri for leading us again. Volunteers show up at 4pm. Plan to stay until around 6:30pm. Extra "brownie" points to anyone who brings desserts to share!
We also will be manning the temporary clothes closet tomorrow evening. Thanks to the Walnut Street Clothing Closet for sharing their provisions with us! There will be coats, hats and gloves for people to take home with them if they have the need. This is also available for our own parishioners as well and will still be available to you Sunday morning.
Young Worshipers - Missionary Class. I'm excited to share this photo with you from last Sunday morning. Pastor Paul returned early last week (and Pastor Mark preached long last week - ahem) to find our young people in the midst of fervent worship.
What a cool photo - as well as a cool reminder what God is doing at every level of our church!
Also - many thanks to Cindy Thoman, Karen Jacob, and Tamara Engstrom, all of whom have such a great love for our kiddos and calling to teach our young people about the love of Jesus!
Sunday Morning. Brandi, Trish and Missie return to lead our worship together. We'll be singing "Unbroken Praise" by Matt Redman - the worship song we learned just a couple weeks ago. We'll also be singing "Good Good Father," "My Heart Is Yours," "No Longer Slaves," and "Man of Sorrows."
If you fail to plan then you plan to fail. Have you ever heard that platitude? While making plans IS crucial to living a successful life, planning alone is only halfway to the proverb that works. Sunday we will learn that planning with God by our side and on our side is the real secret to our real success.
I'm very much looking forward to sharing this talk with you. Much of it comes from a long history of planning in my own life. (Remember that "planning" was actually in the title of my first career.) The seeds of planning were planted early in my life by my dad, who continues to plan exciting adventures for himself today, even at the young age of (almost) 87!
Would you like an early preview of my talk? Want to be an early bird? I promise you more than a worm. Open your Bible app, choose "Events" and look for Church Requel. You can also find a link for Sunday's talk here.
Sermon Options. By the way - did you know that you can save those sermon notes in your Bible app? If there is a particular sermon that speaks to you and you want to keep them for yourself, just look for the "Save" button. In my IOS version of the Bible app, it's on the the top right of the screen.
Also each week we publish a video version of each week's talk in three places: on our website, on our Facebook page, and up on YouTube. My prayer is that you will watch them throughout the week and be reminded of helpful tips for living your Christian life. I've discovered that I don't usually get everything the first time around. When I watch a second or third time I always pick up new ideas!
With our new website it is also easy to search our sermon catalog by topic, sermon series, date or by speaker. Our intention is to make this resource as helpful as possible for you.
I know it's hard to believe, but we now have 380 different talks available for you "on-demand"! Check it out and see if there is something valuable there for you!
Giving Records For 2017. Tax season is upon us. That means that many of you will want a copy of your giving records for last year. There are two ways to get it. The first is to log into our church community builder website, click on your profile link in the top right corner, then click "Financial." There you will find your entire giving history. The second way is just to ask me and I will do it for you and print it out. Either way works!
Speaking of giving, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your generosity this past year. Our treasurer, Nancy Roop, finished preparing the 2017 financial statement for our leadership team this past week. We are rejoicing over God's goodness. Our total giving last year increased by 20% over 2016. Thanks again for your faithfulness!
Coming Up - MCS Image & Potluck! In just two more weeks, February 11th, we will host Mansfield Christian School's ensemble group, Image. Brandi and I looked over their presentation plans this past Tuesday. I have to tell you - this looks like it might be the best year ever! Lots of songs, instrumentals, and skits! You are in for a real treat! You won't want to miss it!
We usually have a pretty big day too with our attendance as many parents and friends of these young musicians will come to watch too.
We also plan to serve a potluck meal afterward downstairs in the fellowship hall. The church will buy a couple of hams and will provide plates and silverware as well as lemonade and coffee. You bring all the side dishes, salads and desserts. Bring plenty of extra to serve our guests too!
Prayers and Thanksgiving. We thank you for your many prayers on our family's behalf. Mary Kay may finally have turned the corner on her flu bug this morning. She missed all of work for the entire week. Roger, I remember your prayer on my behalf last Sunday that I not come down with the bug again. So far God seems to be answering your prayer in the affirmative.
We love you much! Hope to see you all Saturday evening for the Neighborhood meal and Sunday morning at 11am for worship. - Pastor Mark
