Not for the first time this past week have I noticed a large difference in the way husbands and wives respond to situations. You'd think after 30 years of marriage I'd have this all figured out. But like every other married husband in America, I'm still working on it.
Earlier this week I thought to myself, 'This next Sunday night will be the last Sunday evening Church Requel service in our home. We should celebrate with a pot luck meal.' Fortunately, I have learned a few things over these last 30 years. I'm sure there was a time when I would have just gone ahead and done it without talking to Mary Kay about it. Not now though. I told Mary Kay my idea and and got her enthusiastic approval. However, I could see the wheels begin turning behind those beautiful brown eyes of hers.
Yesterday, while I was writing sermons, Mary Kay was out shopping. I'm so lucky to have her! If it had been me, I'd have waited until ten minutes before everyone showed up and ran to Kroger to pick up some flimsy white paper plates. Mary Kay however shopped at several different stores and picked up matching paper plates and napkins and table clothes, then proceeded to decorate several tables throughout the house. We are expecting a crowd. Thanks to Mary Kay, they'll have a more eye festive place to eat than if it had been up to me. (Makes me think of the line from Everyone Loves Raymond: "If not for my wife this whole place would be a smoking crater!")
Want to come to celebrate the last Sunday night service before we move to Mid-Ohio next week? Come on over! We'll meet here at 5PM. If you're coming by yourself, bring one dish of any kind to share with others. If you're coming as a family, bring two dishes - a main dish and a side dish, either salad or dessert. Afterward we'll enjoy an unplugged worship time together praising God for what He has accomplished in our living room these past nine months. Hope to see you here!
