Good Friday morning Church Requel!
Mary Kay and I are traveling today with Jillian and Tim to Nebraska to attend the wedding of my niece, Emily, later today. What an exciting day for us! Some of you may recall the anguish that our family experienced a few years back when Emily, her husband and her best friends were involved in a tragic and fatal automobile accident.
Since that horrible moment, Emily has been ever faithful to Christ and a great example of how God turns bad experiences into good ones. We are so thankful that she and Brandon - also a faithful Christ-follower - have found love and happiness once again. We are really looking forward to celebrating with them later today.
Tomorrow morning we hop back in the car and make a dash for home so that we can celebrate with all of you Sunday morning! Pray for us and for traveling mercies on the road.
Sunday Morning - Zacchaeus and New Beginnings. I'm looking forward to sharing our Bible lesson with you from Luke 19:1-10. [You can check out online sermon notes here.] I've really been enjoying the Bible study this week. As we move further into Luke 19, we realize that Jesus is only days from climbing the 3,000 feet into Jerusalem for his final week. Each story and each lesson take on greater meaning and weight as surely Jesus recognizes that his remaining time on Earth is short.
The Zacchaeus story has been a good one for me to study. I've never preached this sermon before. The last time I really ever considered the Zacchaeus account was when I was but a wee young lad myself. Anyone else remember the Zacchaeus song? As is true with most simple stories from the Bible, there is much more than meets the eye on first reading. I hope you'll feel the same way after our teaching time Sunday.
Dave Singing Sunday! Never belittle the power of a 90+ year old grandmother! Our oldest Church Requel attendee - Georgianna (and also Dave's grandma), let it be known to her grandson that it had been entirely too long since he sang for us at Church Requel! So Dave will be leading our worship this Sunday. As his father-in-law (Dave calls me FIL) I'm pretty pumped about it too!
Nancy will be leading our announcements. Brandi will be leading our communion and prayer time. Chris and Tamara will serve again in the tech booth (thanks!!!) Trish is bringing our snacks. Brian will be greeting us as we come in. Cindy will lead our Missionary class. Karen will lead our KidsMin class. Sara will be watching over our children in nursery. And Shelli will be leading our counting team. 1 Corinthians 12:12 about many parts and one body sure do come to mind when I think of all you're doing Sunday!
Picnic & Pool Party. On Saturday, August 12th from 6:00-8:00pm we will get together for one last Church Requel Hoo-Rah before the school year begins! Come to Shelly Acres, 1002 Twins Lane, for a picnic, swimming, fellowship and our annual CR group picture. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. CR will provide the meat, lemonade and paper goods. Please let us know you will be coming by signing the sign-up sheet in the foyer.
School Supplies. We are accepting school supplies so that we may assist our students in going back to school next month. Watch for bargains! Clip those coupons! Shop for deals!
Then bring your school goodies with you this Sunday and next (August 6th) to Church Requel. On August 13the we will distribute supplies to our own students first and then donate to the public if we receive more than what we can use.
We thank Amy Watson for her leadership in this endeavor. If you are willing to assist in organizing the school resources, please let Amy know.
Sign Up For The Indians Game. I know this is still a couple months away, but we need to pay for the tickets now. We have reserved 40 seats for the Friday, September 8th Indians game against the Baltimore Orioles at 7:10pm. It's also Sugardale Dollar Dog Night AND there are fireworks after the game!
This Sunday is the last Sunday to make your reservation!
You can go to give.ChurchRequel.org if you'd like to pay for your tickets online with your credit card. We've already had quite a few people use our online donation website - it's so easy to use! If you decide to use our online donation site, make sure to select the designation "Indians Tickets 2017" in the drop down box. Let's thank Brandi for making these arrangements for us. Thanks!
Lots going on! Thanks for all you each do to make Church Requel such a special place! Hope to see you all on Sunday!
Love you! Pastor Mark
